Increasing tools life for coining dies with application of new PVD coatings.

The project aims to increase the durability and reliability tools for coinage (the dies) application of new PVD
coating. The project solution is spread into phases. It will produce a comprehensive analysis of the current state
of the manufacturing process instruments for the use of tool materials and production processes, mainly reliefforming,
heat treatment and surface treatment relief the dies. For samples of chrome the dies will be examined
properties of tool materials after application of innovative process of heat treatment and the quality of Cr layer.
Next will be an analysis of a selection of PVD coatings in order to ascertain the suitability of their application to
tool steel, with a focus on compensation for chroming. The quality of the coatings is investigated experimentally
evaluated using the latest methods of microscopic analysis and relevant test methods. Tool life will be evaluated
at the premises of Kremnica Mint. It is expected that the change in technology chroming increase tool life and
eliminates the environmental burden of the company. For state-owned enterprise, which is the only one of its
kind in Slovakia, the results of the project will bring economic and environmental effects.
